ALLERGIES & INTOLERANCES
Along with Asthma, Rhinitis and Eczema, the incidence of food allergy is rising alarmingly (Common allergies include shellfish, peanuts, cows milk protein, soya, hens egg white, cod. On the rise are tree nuts, peach, apple, strawberries, citrus fruit, tomato, celery, onion, parsley, pork and beef). Most cases of food induced shocks (anaphylaxis) are triggered by food eaten outside the home and can be life-threatening. The number of people affected by allergy has increased dramatically, particularly in developed countries. Allergies and intolerances affect up to one-third of the population in the industrial world and several environmental factors play a major role: Housing; Diet; Family Size; Childhood Infection; Antibiotics etc.
Atopic diseases constitute a public health problem involving millions of patients. There is evidence that the incidence of allergy is increasing. Allergic diseases generally begin early in childhood, although they can arise at any age.
The development of allergy in relation to age can be described as an “allergy march”, as there is often a given direction once atopic immune responses associated with IgE antibodies are initiated and starts to induce the atopic disease. Many chronic asthmatics have a history of eczema and gastrointestinal disorders during their first year of life. Sensitivity to food in infants is often associated with the appearance of allergy to inhalants later in life
Allergy can be antibody or cell-mediated. In the majority of cases the antibody typically responsible for an allergic reaction belongs to the IgE isotype and these individuals may be referred to as suffering from an IgE mediated allergy. This is an immediate hyper-sensitivity reaction and by far the most common allergic reaction.
The release of large amounts of vasoactive amines may lead to ANAPHYLAXIS. IgE mediated anaphylaxis is the classic reaction, often of great severity and always potentially life-threatening.
The most common causes of anaphylaxis:
FOOD: eggs, milk, tree nuts, peanuts, legumes, soya, fish and shellfish
DRUGS: penicillin and the synthetic penicillin derivatives, but also others (!)
LATEX: affecting health care workers, but also patients with recurrent surgery.
INSECT STINGS: bee, wasp, yellow jacket, hornet, and some species of ants
If you suspect a food related allergy/hyper- sensitivity or a food-pollen-cross allergy, see a specialist in allergies/allergo-dietetics.
INTOLERANCES ... their detection and treatment can fill books. And we always come across patients who have been diagnosed via very questionable tools. The easiest way: Before you sign up for a test, get some information about the accuracy and acceptance of the test in question. That even health food shops like Holland and Barrett offer sometimes testing with a VEGA machine, does not mean that this is a accurate test. We advice you about proper tests, or do them ourselves in our MSML lab.

LIVER CLEANSING
Sluggish metabolism and excessive weight is a symptom of liver dysfunction. We have been attacking the symptoms with fad diets, obsessional high-impact aerobic exercise, stomach stapling and toxic drugs such as appetite suppressants, laxatives and diuretics and new low/no carb diets of which some are fraudulent and potentially dangerous. We have failed to treat the underlying cause of liver dysfunction and have managed to ignore the hardest working organ in the body. After environmental disasters in Japan in the sixties and seventies, nutritionists, dieticians and other health specialists developed some highly specialised Liver Cleansing Diets which have become increasingly popular in the Western World.

HEART HEALTH
Heart Disease is the UK’s biggest killer, causing approximately 37% of deaths. In a world where intentions of regular exercise are often hard to realise, ready meals and takeaways are a welcome option after a long day at work, and concerns about overall health and fitness are on the increase, heart and circulatory conditions are a real danger for many.
We measure Heart Rate Variability in our clients with the help of the HeartBalance technology (HeartMan). It is a 24 hour ECG holster that measures and registers fine changes within heart and breathing rhythm. The result of this investigation is a so called auto-chronic image that can be interpreted in cooperation with the health professional and gives an accurate picture of the ability of the organism to recover from stress, sleep quality, vitality and predicts ultimately the risk of developing serious heart disease.
The Integrated Healthy Heart Clinic has been founded in a bid to help people fight off the risks of heart-related illnesses. Its techniques are modern and practical, and an essential aspect of treatment is to work in close proximity to patients’ existing healthcare workers, so that the treatments work in harmony for the utmost benefit of the patient.
Before treatment commences, the Clinic’s experienced practitioners will take a detailed medical history including existing treatment and medication. They will arrange further diagnostic tests, of required. Based on that assessment, suggestions will be made as to the best way forward to maintain optimum health, prevent future problems arising and treat existing conditions.
Not only will the Integrated Healthy Heart Clinic work in coalition with a patient’s GP and cardiologist, but it will also involve their biochemist or nutritionist, a personal trainer and HeartSpheres coach, where applicable. In some cases the Clinic will also aim to bring patients with similar conditions together for self-help groups and mutual support.
Heart disease and especially heart attacks and arrhythmia (irregular heart beat) are frequently associated with stress and unmanaged extreme, negative emotions, such as anxiety, fear, anger and frustration. The link between chronic stress and the development of coronary heart disease is scientifically well established. Managing these extreme emotions contributed towards balancing and harmonising the autonomic nervous system and thereby contributing substantially towards preventing and treating conditions like hypertension, diabetes or chronic heart disease.
